QQC

Q: Knowledge is created not by the act of observing, Foucault says, but through "relations...between institutions, economic and social processes, behavioral patterns, systems of norms, techniques, types of classification, modes of characterization: and these relations are not present in the object."

Q: Do you believe this is a more effective way in gaining knowledge?

  1. I think it could possibly be a more effective way of gaining knowledge as opposed to observing. If you are observing something, you may not be gaining the most valuable or effective knowledge as you by engaging with the observation. If you can interact and create relations with the observation through the ways Foucault lists, I think that could probably generate a more effective accumulation of knowledge.

  2. I think that observation is an important part of learning, but can't be the only method of learning. Like Julia said, experience is crucial to gaining knowledge about the world. It's one thing to read about the culture of India (for example) and actually visiting India for a few days.
